Swiss Banks Pilot DLT for Cross-Border Payments

robot
Abstract generation in progress

Swiss financial institutions AMINA Bank and Crypto Finance have concluded a pilot program showcasing the potential of distributed ledger technology (DLT) to modernize cross-border payments. Conducted on the Google Cloud Universal Ledger (GCUL) platform, the pilot enables near real-time, 24/7 settlements between Swiss-regulated banks while adhering to established security standards and regulatory requirements.

Addressing Inefficiencies in Global Payments

The pilot tackles critical inefficiencies in global payment systems, demonstrating how DLT can support faster and more cost-effective transactions without the need for new digital currencies. Franz Bergmüller, CEO of AMINA Bank, noted, “GCUL from Google Cloud proves that innovation and stability are not mutually exclusive.”

Next Steps for Expansion and Advanced Capabilities

The next phase will involve expanding the platform by onboarding additional financial institutions and exploring advanced capabilities for cross-border payments, aiming to further enhance efficiency and reliability in international financial transactions.
