KOSPI Plunges 9 Percent Triggers Circuit Breaker as Chip Stocks Lead Historic Sell Off ✨
South Korea KOSPI index suffered its worst session in years on July 28 plunging 9 percent and breaking below 6200 for first time since April. Korea Exchange activated both sell side sidecar and circuit breaker mechanisms halting program sell orders for 20 minutes. It was eighth circuit breaker triggered this year.

🔹 Trigger appears to be CXMT historic debut in Shanghai Chinese memory chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies surged roughly 466 percent on first trading day after raising at least 8.6 billion fueling worries over potential disruption to memory chip oligopoly
🔹 Concerns over AI investment returns and peaking memory prices converged in single session
A Global Sell Off
🔹 Selling spread across Asia Japan Nikkei 225 dropped approximately 4 percent while Taiwan Taiex declined 3.9 percent
