Chrome Extension Store Bans Prediction Market Betting, Tightens Data Collection Rules on August 1

According to Google's developer blog, Chrome extension store will enforce stricter policies on August 1, 2026. Prediction markets will be classified as regulated commodities, and extensions supporting real-money trading on prediction outcomes are prohibited. Extensions collecting user data must limit such data to a single, pre-disclosed purpose and cannot repurpose it.

All data collection must be prominently disclosed to users. If data practices change after installation, developers must proactively notify users. Additionally, extensions attempting to bypass AI service safety guardrails and usage restrictions are prohibited. Non-compliant extensions may face removal or other enforcement actions.
