According to Deep Tide TechFlow news, the European Central Bank's official account posted a video on X, in which President Christine Lagarde announced that the Governing Council has decided to advance to the final stage of preparing for the digital euro, marking a key milestone in the project. She stated that the European Council requested on October 23 to expedite the process in order to launch the digital euro as soon as possible.
Lagarde emphasized that while banknotes will continue to circulate, the European Central Bank hopes to extend cash in the form of “digital euros,” allowing the public to use both banknotes and “click to use” digital cash like payment applications.
According to the plan:
If approved by the European Parliament in 2026, the digital euro pilot will start in 2027;
If the test goes smoothly, the plan is to officially launch it across Europe in 2029.
Lagarde stated that the digital euro is not just a technical project, but also a “symbol of trust in the common destiny of Europe,” symbolizing the unity of currency and sovereignty.
