I said: Trading. He asked again: What is trading? I wanted to say "buy low, sell high," but that's too superficial. I thought about it all night, and the most honest answer is:
The world is full of inconsistencies—information asymmetry, differing time preferences, and an unpredictable future. A trader's job is to bear the uncertainties that others are unwilling to take on and to build connections within these gaps.
