Xiaomi will collaborate with Sei Labs(Sei Labs), the core development team of the Sei blockchain, to pre-install cryptocurrency wallets and blockchain apps on its smartphones.
Xiaomi smartphone users can activate the cryptocurrency wallet by logging in with their existing Google or Xiaomi ID. This wallet is based on multi-party computation(MPC) technology, enhancing security features, and includes access to popular cryptocurrency apps, P2P, and store payment functions. Sei is a high-speed Layer-1 blockchain launched in 2023, optimized for low-cost transactions.
The rollout is scheduled to begin primarily in Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa, with service expansion in Hong Kong and the European Union(EU) starting from mid-2026. Sei Labs will operate a $5 million program to support mobile projects that incorporate blockchain features into consumer devices.
Through this partnership, Xiaomi plans to introduce stablecoin payment options on its own sales channels and online stores, enabling purchases of its devices using cryptocurrencies such as USDC. Currently, Xiaomi produces smartphones, smart home devices, IoT(IoT) products, and electric vehicles.
In the Web3 industry, there is a growing movement to leverage smartphones as a major channel for cryptocurrency adoption. Solana Mobile announced the Saga(Saga) smartphone in 2022 and launched the second-generation Seeker(Seeker) in 2024, aiming to expand the mobile ecosystem through the issuance of Samcoin(SK). Samsung is also collaborating with various platforms to provide cryptocurrency purchasing functions to 75 million Galaxy users, contributing to global cryptocurrency adoption.
