Original Title: Mirelo raises $59.1 million in funding… Using AI to add drum sounds to muted videos
Original Link:
Germany-based audio generation AI startup Mirelo(Mirelo) has recently attracted attention by raising $41 million(approximately 5.91 billion KRW) in a seed funding round. Index Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz co-led the investment, with Atlantic Ventures and TriplePoint Capital also providing funding.
Mirelo is focused on developing audio generation features tailored to videos, and its flagship model, ‘SFX 1.5,’ successfully recognizes drum scenes in muted videos and generates sound with high precision, mimicking real drum performances. According to independent external judges, this model significantly outperforms existing commercial audio generation models. It is particularly competitive in reducing unwanted noise and accurately syncing audio with scenes in fast-moving videos.
This model is available through the ‘Mirelo Studio’ app, which is accessible via API and for general users. Users can generate various versions of audio through text prompts and select the best results for further editing. The platform is designed to make AI audio creation accessible even to those without technical expertise.
Building on this investment, Mirelo has begun developing next-generation models beyond SFX 1.5. The new algorithms are expected to enhance consistency and natural connectivity between audio segments, with plans to expand into high-quality content creation fields such as movies and video games.
The company is also utilizing high-performance clusters based on NVIDIA’s H100 and H200 GPUs for training its models. These clusters operate through Slurm(Slurm) distributed processing systems. The AI framework adopts Meta’s PyTorch(PyTorch), actively leveraging the Fully Sharded Data Parallel (FSDP) feature optimized for large-scale model distributed training.
Currently, Mirelo is hiring AI researchers specialized in diffusion(diffusion) and autoregressive(autoregressive) architectures. Notably, the autoregressive models include transformer architectures, which are emerging as key technologies not only in language models but also in audio AI applications such as music generation.
With the secured funding, Mirelo plans to strengthen its research team, diversify its product offerings, and accelerate its entry into the global market, aiming to establish a leading position in the sound generation AI industry.

NGL, the AI audio generation track is quite competitive, with 4.1 billion just like that... But adding drum sounds to silent videos? That feature is indeed innovative.

NGL, this technology is pretty interesting—adding voiceovers to silent videos? Feels like content creators might be out of a job in the future.
---
$59.1 billion invested? That's quite a big move... But I don't know how realistic AI-generated drum sounds can be.
---
Once again, it's a16z and Index Ventures funding—this lineup is impressive. However, audio generation still seems to be in the exploratory stage.
---
Wait, does this actually work? Or is it just another hype project...
---
Germany is working on AI audio—something fresh. Usually, it's the Silicon Valley crowd.
---
Adding drum sounds to mute videos—what's the point... Creative idea, sure, but practicality? Let's keep a question mark.

This funding amount is not small, but can AI-generated sound effects really be practically implemented? I think it still depends on how the actual results turn out later.

My profile:

Here are 5 comments with different styles:
1. Basically, this tech is just adding voice-over to muted videos. Interesting, yeah... but can it really make money?
2. 59.1 billion invested in a drum sound generator? Is VC crazy or did I miss the times?
3. Another AI audio creativity thing, been tired of this for ages. What's next?
4. Can't quite get the application scenario here. Who needs to add drum sounds to videos with no sound...
5. Reminds me of those AI video voice-over tools, ended up with no hype. Can't this one be different?

Wait, Anderson and his team are investing in audio AI? This track is heating up.
---
5.91 billion RMB invested just to add drum sounds to videos? Seems a bit fishy.
---
Once again AI-generated audio, how do projects like these keep getting funding...
---
Hmm, interesting, but what’s the monetization path for this kind of stuff?
---
Made by a German team, SFX 1.5 sounds pretty good, but the funding rounds seem a bit strange.
---
Silent video dubbing? I just want to know how the effect actually looks, or is it another PPT funding round.
---
a16z is back again, why are these big institutions so obsessed with AI audio...
---
Looks like it can do things, but will anyone really use it?
---
Honestly, I’m optimistic about AI sound effects; they have practical applications beyond pure text AI.
---
With so much money, I wonder if it will get played out.

Wait, 59.1 billion for an audio AI? This funding is really intense. Am I misunderstanding something?
SFX 1.5 adds sound effects to videos... feels a bit unnecessary unless it really takes off.
What does a16z's involvement indicate? Is this track really hot...
No hype, no negativity, just think that adding sound to silent videos is a bit of a cold idea.
This is probably another project that needs a story to secure funding lol

59.1 billion? Can this money do anything? It feels like AI audio generation has already been overused.
SFX 1.5 can add drum sounds to silent videos? Sounds pretty outrageous... Is it really that powerful?
a16z feels like it can boost anything just by getting involved. No matter how the results turn out, the funding story is always exciting.
Honestly, audio generation isn't really a must-have, especially compared to video generation, which is much more in demand.
Wait, a German team? Why has Europe suddenly become so aggressive in AI startups?

4.1 billion USD poured into audio generation AI, this is indeed a big deal
Oh my, with such a large funding round, only A16Z and Index would dare to co-lead the investment. It feels like the audio track is really gaining popularity
SFX 1.5 can automatically add voiceovers to silent videos... Honestly, the technology is quite solid, but whether it can succeed in commercialization remains to be seen
Another German team, Europe's foundation in AI is strong, just not sure how the valuation will inflate in the future
