Original Title: Ripple Expands RLUSD Stablecoin with Leading Layer2 Solutions
Original Link:
Ripple(Ripple) is expanding its stablecoin RLUSD onto layer 2 blockchains, accelerating its multi-chain strategy.
Ripple plans to launch RLUSD on major layer2 blockchains such as Optimism, Base, Ink, and Unichain through collaboration with cross-chain protocol Wormhole(Wormhole).
The launch is scheduled for next year after regulatory approval.
RLUSD was first launched on December 2024 on XRP Ledger(XRPL) and Ethereum, with a total issuance now exceeding $1 billion. Ripple emphasized, “The future of the cryptocurrency ecosystem is multi-chain,” and “Stablecoins should exist wherever there is demand and utility.”
Ripple has designed the system to enable cross-chain transfers without separate wrapping by utilizing Wormhole NTT(Native Token Transfers) technology.
Jack McDonald, Senior Vice President of Ripple’s Stablecoin division, stated, “RLUSD will demonstrate that on-chain efficiency and regulatory compliance can coexist,” and “It will serve as a reliable gateway satisfying both DeFi and institutional demand.”
