AI Hardware Orders Surge 17% Year-over-Year in June, U.S. Q2 GDP Expected at 2.1%

According to MarketWatch, AI-related hardware orders surged 17% year-over-year in June, the strongest pace since the late 1990s dot-com era, according to U.S. durable goods data released Monday (July 27). June computer and related product new orders rose 3.1% monthly. Economists expect enterprise equipment spending to sustain growth, with U.S. Q2 GDP projected at 2.1% annualized pace. Santander Capital Markets chief U.S. economist Stephen Stanley noted that current corporate capital expenditure remains robust, with AI infrastructure investment as a primary driver. During Q1, AI-related equipment contributed 0.8 percentage points to U.S. GDP growth, about four times the average quarterly contribution since 2000.
