According to Benzinga, China's largest DRAM manufacturer Changxin Memory (CXMT) completed an 8.6 billion U.S. dollar IPO in Shanghai today, with stock prices surging 466% on the first day, signaling investor confidence in Beijing's efforts to build a globally competitive memory chip giant.
Counterpoint Research analyst MS Hwang noted that while Chinese manufacturers are rapidly advancing in general-purpose DRAM and NAND sectors, they remain one generation behind in HBM (high-bandwidth memory). SanDisk and Western Digital, traditional NAND suppliers, appear more vulnerable to intensifying Chinese competition in standardized memory products, where capital rather than technical barriers determines entry, an advantage state-backed new entrants possess.
