According to CoinDesk, Ethereum Foundation's protocol security team recently used AI agents to uncover a remotely-triggerable crash vulnerability in the gossipsub messaging system. The flaw allows attackers to force validator nodes into abnormal computation and automatic shutdown, taking them offline until operators manually restart. The vulnerability, assigned CVE-2026-34219, has already been patched. The research team highlighted that the major challenge lies not in discovering vulnerabilities but in distinguishing genuine flaws from false positives. AI agents generated comprehensive documentation for each finding, including attack paths and executable verification code, making manual review labor-intensive despite high hallucination rates.
