EU Approves LNG Sanctions Exception for South Korea Until March 2028

According to Yonhapinfomax, the European Union on July 23 adopted its 21st sanctions package against Russia, which includes an exception allowing South Korea to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Sakhalin II project until March 2028. The exemption covers South Korea's long-term contract with Korea Gas Corporation, which has been importing approximately 1.5 million tons of LNG annually from the project since 2008. The exception addresses South Korea's energy security concerns amid expanding Russian sanctions.
