Ford Enters U.S. Army Tactical Truck Competition, Seeks Major Defense Contract for 600-Vehicle Procurement

According to WSJ, Ford announced on July 27 that it has entered the U.S. Army's competition to develop next-generation tactical trucks, marking the automaker's largest military contract pursuit since the Cold War ended. The company will develop three prototype tactical vehicles based on its F-Series Super Duty heavy-duty pickup trucks, designed to transport soldiers across challenging terrain and function as mobile power sources for drones and command systems.

The U.S. Army plans to procure approximately 600 new tactical trucks and has awarded prototype development contracts to Ford, General Motors (GM-US), and off-road vehicle manufacturer BC Customs, with deliveries scheduled for testing next year. Ford competes against GM's ISV-Heavy platform, which builds on the Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty pickup.
