Former South Korean Lawmaker Blames Presidential Office for Single-Stock Leverage ETF Policy on July 20

According to Hankookilbo, on July 20, former opposition lawmaker Yoon Seung-min criticized the introduction of single-stock leverage exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tracking Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, blaming the presidential office for the resulting market volatility and retail investor losses. Yoon stated that "countless retail investors are suffering in what has become a speculative 'Squid Game' stock market" and called for a national investigation into policy responsibility. He alleged that Presidential Policy Director Kim Yong-beom spearheaded the ETF introduction, which contributed to KOSPI's 2.60% decline to 6,643.58 on the trading day.
