Iran Ships 6 Sanctioned VLCCs Carrying 12M Barrels Through Strait of Hormuz in Past Week

According to vessel tracking data, in the past week Iran's six U.S.-sanctioned very large crude carriers (VLCCs) transited the Strait of Hormuz and entered the Gulf of Oman with their automatic identification systems disabled, collectively carrying 12 million barrels of crude oil. These transits occurred after the United States revoked its temporary waiver allowing Iran to sell crude oil on July 7, according to external reports. Beyond these six Iranian VLCCs, numerous other U.S.-sanctioned vessels linked to Tehran have departed the Strait of Hormuz since July 7 as part of Iran's effort to export crude before potential new U.S. port blockades.
