LSEG Confirms T+1 Settlement Transition for October 2026, as 90% of Global Market Cap Adopts Faster Clearing

According to the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), the UK will transition from T+2 to T+1 settlement cycles on October 11, 2026, in coordination with EU and Swiss markets. An LSEG spokesperson confirmed the implementation remains on track, with preparations already underway since February 2025.

By the end of 2026, an estimated 90% of global stock market capitalization will operate on T+1 settlement, following the U.S. transition in 2024 and Hong Kong's planned Q4 2026 adoption. LSEG is also exploring extended trading hours, including potential 24-hour equity trading. Chris Elmes, CEO of Euroclear UK & International, stated the market has learned from U.S. operational challenges and will prioritize automation and system readiness ahead of implementation.
