Russia Issues Warning on Japan's Nuclear Weapons Discussion on July 27

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, Russia issued a warning on July 27 regarding Japan's nuclear weapons policy. Zakharova stated that if Japan introduces nuclear weapons in its accelerating remilitarization process, it would threaten Russian national security and destabilize the region. She responded to Japanese Defense Minister Shinzo Koizumi's recent statement that Japan should discuss nuclear weapons-related policies without taboos, noting that Japan, as a nuclear threshold state, could develop nuclear warheads in a relatively short timeframe. Zakharova added that no country threatens Japan's sovereignty or territorial integrity, and called for Japan to remember World War II lessons and return to peaceful development.
