Samsung Brings Forward First Yongin Chip Plant Start to 2029

According to The Korea Times, Samsung Electronics plans to start operating the first chip plant at its Yongin cluster, south of Seoul, in 2029—one year ahead of the government's publicly announced 2030 target. The site will eventually host six semiconductor plants as part of a national strategic project to serve as an advanced AI chip hub. Infrastructure development, including electricity transmission and land compensation, remains a potential bottleneck.
