Samsung Heavy Industries Receives 50MW Floating Data Center Approval; Q2 2028 Launch Planned

According to Samsung Securities analyst Han Young-soo, Samsung Heavy Industries (010140) received preliminary design approval for a 50MW floating data center (FDC) on April 19, with commercial operation expected in Q2 2028. The company signed partnership agreements with U.K.-based Lloyd's Register and Greek shipping firm Capital in June. Samsung is also collaborating with U.S. data center developer Musterian (M3) on a large-scale project in Houston, Texas. Meanwhile, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (009540) is partnering with Schneider Electric to develop optimized maritime data center infrastructure, aiming to build an integrated FDC platform combining power generation, data center operations, and marine management.
