South Korea Proposes Relaxing Semiconductor Holding Company Rule on July 14

According to Yonhap Infomax, South Korea's ruling party announced on July 14 that it plans to propose legislation relaxing regulations on holding company ownership structures. Under current fair trade law, a holding company's grandchild subsidiary must maintain 100% ownership of its sub-subsidiaries. The proposed amendment would allow advanced enterprises recognized by the Industry Ministry to reduce this to 50% ownership, with the condition that sub-subsidiaries must be located outside the Seoul metropolitan area. The government aims to process the bill during the regular parliament session beginning in September.
