South Korean President Lee Proposes Korea-NATO Defense Industry Partnership 2.0 on July 7

According to Yonhapinfomax, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung proposed on July 7 a new Korea-NATO Defense Industry Partnership 2.0 during a keynote speech at NATO's Defense Forum in Ankara, Turkey. The initiative aims to move beyond current defense cooperation focused on weapons sales to include joint research, production, and operation of defense systems. Lee emphasized the need to expand joint research and development on advanced technologies, citing cooperation programs in ammunition and space as models. He stressed that defense industrial capabilities are now at the frontline of national security, with advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, and robotics becoming critical factors in military effectiveness and deterrence.
