South Korea's Current Account Surplus Records $38.61B in May, Semiconductor Exports Surge 167.7%

According to Bank of Korea data released on July 8, South Korea's current account surplus hit a record $38.61 billion in May, surpassing the prior high of $37.93 billion recorded in March.

Total exports surged 62.9% year-over-year to $94.34 billion, driven primarily by information technology products including semiconductor exports (+167.7%) and computer peripheral devices (+249.4%). The cumulative current account surplus for January-May reached $141.28 billion, already exceeding the prior year's full total of $123.05 billion.
