South Korea's NPS Fund Falls to 1.7 Quadrillion Won in One Month, Easing Domestic Stock Selling Pressure

According to the financial investment industry, South Korea's National Pension Service (NPS) fund dropped to approximately 1.7 quadrillion won recently, down sharply from 1.9 quadrillion won the previous month. The decline was driven by falling stock prices, particularly in large-cap holdings like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix on the KOSPI index.

The fund's domestic stock allocation stands at around 25 percent of total assets, exceeding the 2026 target of 20.8 percent but remaining below the allowable threshold of 26.8 percent. This eases rebalancing pressure, with net daily selling by pension funds dropping to 19.2 billion won through July 16, down sharply from the 73.8 billion won daily average in the first half of 2026.
