Trump Says Fed Chair Warsh Wants Rate Cut Ahead of Wednesday Decision; Traders Bet 1-in-3 Odds on Hike

President Trump said Monday that he knows Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh wants to cut interest rates, though the Fed chairman may face opposition from some board members. "I know what he wants to do. He wants to do the right thing," Trump told media while traveling to Michigan. The Fed's two-day policy meeting concludes Wednesday with a decision announcement and press conference. Traders currently price in roughly one-in-three odds of a rate hike, reflecting rare uncertainty over the central bank's direction. Trump reiterated his longstanding position that "interest rates should be lowered," but noted Warsh is constrained by other Fed officials.
