UN Secretary-General Guterres Arrives in Cyprus on July 28 to Mediate Peace Talks

According to Jin10, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Cyprus on July 28 to mediate efforts on restarting long-stalled negotiations over the Cyprus issue. This marks his first visit to Cyprus since becoming UN secretary-general and the first visit by a UN secretary-general in 16.5 years. According to Cyprus' national broadcaster, Guterres plans to push all parties toward consensus to convene a five-party conference hosted by the UN, which would include Cyprus' Greek and Turkish leaders, guarantor powers Britain, Greece and Turkey, and EU representatives.
