Abandoned Gold Mine Collapses in Sudan, Killing 15 Workers on July 5

According to Sudan Mineral Resources Company statement, an abandoned gold mine collapsed yesterday morning (July 5) near the Egyptian border in Wadi Halfa, killing 15 workers and injuring 1. The incident occurred at the Muhammad Tawfik mine in Sudan's Northern State. The company said it had previously closed the facility and prohibited unauthorized entry, but illegal mining operations by workers triggered the collapse. Rescue teams and civil defense personnel responded to the scene; the injured has been hospitalized and search operations are ongoing.
