Aspen Pharmacare Gains Rights to Monthly Oral HIV Prevention Drug for 129 Countries

According to a voluntary licensing agreement with Merck & Co.'s MSD division, Aspen Pharmacare has gained rights to develop, manufacture, and sell alimatravir, a once-monthly oral HIV prevention drug, for 129 countries including all African nations. Aspen is one of seven manufacturers participating in the agreement. If ongoing final pre-approval trials succeed, the drug will be produced for the eligible markets, positioning South Africa as a leader in global HIV prevention efforts.
