BTC drops sharply in 15 minutes, down 0.32%: a geopolitical conflict escalates, rate-hike expectations heat up, and the short-term market comes under pressure

BTC-1.61%

From 13:45 to 14:00 (UTC) on July 23, 2026, BTC fell 0.32% over 15 minutes, with the price touching the $64,864.8–$65,145.1 range and the amplitude of 0.43%. Over the past 24 hours, BTC has cumulatively fallen by about 1.66%, with an intraday low of $64,820. Market attention has clearly risen, and volatility has increased.

The main driver behind this unusual move is the continued escalation of the military conflict between the US and Iran compounded by rising expectations for a Fed rate hike in September. The US military has conducted airstrikes on Iranian military targets for the 12th consecutive night, raising geopolitical risk and pushing oil prices to a six-week high (near $100 per barrel), which further fuels inflation expectations. At the same time, CME FedWatch shows the market-implied probability of a September rate hike has reached 77%. Expectations for tighter macro liquidity suppress the upside momentum of risk assets.

Second, on the technical side, “overbought momentum has faded,” and BTC’s failure to break the $68,000 resistance level did not form a convergence signal, prompting short-term longs to proactively close their positions. Order Book data show the bid depth is 2.61, with buy orders concentrated in the $64,888–$64,903 range. There is some short-term support, but its strength is limited. The K-line trading volume is 480.98 BTC, with a Fall % of -0.59%, indicating a relatively mild pullback on reduced volume—suggesting the market has not yet shown panic selling.

For the short term, focus on the effectiveness of the $64,820 support. If it breaks below on increased volume, BTC could test the $63,000 psychological level. Resistance to watch above is $65,550, and then $68,000. The Fed’s July 29 rate decision and the trajectory of the US-Iran conflict are key observation windows. If oil prices break above $100, it may further strengthen the rate-hike narrative. With current macro pressure not yet easing, upside room for any rebound may be limited. It is recommended to monitor changes in Filled Amount and the performance of key support levels.
