Google Cloud CEO: Existing Customers' Spending Exceeds Commitments by 50%, Q2 Revenue Up 82%

According to CNBC on Thursday, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian stated that existing customers' actual spending typically exceeds their initial commitments by approximately 50%. The strong demand drove Google Cloud's Q2 revenue to grow 82% year-over-year, becoming Alphabet's strongest-performing business segment.

Demand has outpaced Google's current computing capacity, prompting the company to rent additional computational resources from third-party providers in the near term. Kurian noted this temporary measure will compress Google Cloud's profit margins for a few quarters before customers transition to Google's own data centers as internal capacity comes online.
