Kakao Pay Securities Launches Fractional Stock Trading in August, Ties with 20M-User Kakao Bank

Kakao Pay-6.25%

According to The Fact, Kakao Pay Securities obtained its investment brokerage license in July and plans to launch fractional stock trading for domestic equities starting in August, the company announced. The service will also integrate with Kakao Bank, an internet bank subsidiary with over 20 million users, enabling fractional share purchases—allowing investors to buy premium stocks worth hundreds of thousands of won in units as small as 0.1 or 0.01 shares.

This move contrasts with rival Toss Securities, which declined to enter the domestic fractional trading market, citing low profitability relative to infrastructure and settlement costs. Kakao Pay Securities CEO Shin Ho-chul recently stated the goal of reaching 20 million investing users within three years, prioritizing customer lock-in effects over immediate transaction fee revenue.
