According to Reuters and The Warzone, NATO announced on July 7 at its defense industrial forum in Ankara, Turkey, that it would adopt Sweden's Saab Global Eye as its next-generation airborne early warning and control system. The decision will replace some of the alliance's aging Boeing E-3 Sentry aircraft. Boeing's E-7 Wedgetail was previously the leading candidate; however, NATO abandoned that plan last year. NATO emphasized the decision represents transatlantic industrial cooperation, with contributions from both U.S. and European companies.
