OpenAI's Fidji Simo Steps Back to Part-Time Advisor After Less Than One Year Due to Chronic Illness

According to Beating, OpenAI's AGI deployment CEO Fidji Simo announced she is transitioning from full-time to part-time advisor role. Simo, who joined OpenAI in 2025, took a three-month medical leave beginning in April due to a neurological immune condition and determined recovery will take longer than initially expected. She will focus on treatment while continuing as an advisor.

OpenAI President Greg Brockman has assumed her product responsibilities, with CFO Sarah Friar and Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon sharing her other duties. Simo will also participate in AI biomedical projects Chronicle BioAI and CODA Research.
