According to LPL Financial, the S&P 500 has risen in all 18 periods following U.S. midterm elections since 1954, with an average gain of 18.2%. Chief equity strategist Jeff Buchbinder noted that while midterm election years historically show below-average market performance (4.6% average return), uncertainty peaks ahead of elections and declines once results are known, shifting investor focus to economic fundamentals such as growth, corporate earnings, and monetary policy.
