The Creator of Pepe Fell into a Trap: Hired a North Korean Hacker

robot
Abstract generation in progress

The story nobody expected: Matt Furie, the genius behind Pepe, teamed up with Chainsaw to launch NFT collections. But here comes the wild part: someone on the IT team turned out to be a hacker from the Lazarus group of North Korea. The same story with Favrr, which even hired one of these criminals as CTO. Total losses: 1 million dollars.

What went wrong?

It's not just bad luck. It's pure negligence:

  • Hiring people without conducting basic security checks
  • Farrv and Chainsaw had ZERO vetting protocols
  • They didn't even conduct cybersecurity audits before launching.

The silence is deafening

The most concerning thing is the lack of transparency afterwards:

  • Farrv: He was the only one who issued a public statement
  • Chainsaw: Posted a warning, then deleted it (why?)
  • Matt Furie: Radio silence. Blocked the DMs on X.

ZachXBT tried to reach out to the three. None responded.

Why it should matter to you

This is not a rumor. North Korean hackers are more active than ever. Lazarus executed the largest hack in crypto history, and now their people are infiltrating Web3 companies pretending to be legitimate employees.

While hackers are three steps ahead, these projects continue to sleep. The obvious question: How many other crypto purchases have security infiltrators without knowing it?
