From influencer to fugitive: the spectacular fall of BitBoy Crypto
Ben Armstrong, better known as BitBoy Crypto, went from being one of the most influential figures in crypto to starring in one scandal after another. His story is a brutal reminder of how fame in crypto can evaporate in seconds.
The meteoric rise
When he launched his YouTube channel in 2018, BitBoy quickly became a reference for thousands of retail investors. Market analysis, project reviews, educational books about Bitcoin… he seemed like the guru everyone was looking for. At his peak, he reached a massive audience.
Where everything went wrong
But things changed when he started promoting projects without transparency. The most notable scandal was with DISTX in 2020 — his followers got burned badly. Then came more accusations of pump & dumps disguised as “objective analysis.”
Key events
August 2023: He was removed from his own company, HIT Network. Ironic, right? Later, they rebranded BitBoy Crypto to “Discover Crypto” under new management.
March 21, 2025: Armstrong was arrested in Florida for sending emails to a judge (Kimberly Childs) in Georgia. Yes, seriously. He went from influencer to legal trouble.
The lesson
The rise and fall of BitBoy shows something fundamental: in crypto, reputation is EVERYTHING. A good marketing pitch cannot replace real credibility. Those who build pump & dumps eventually pay the price — whether by losing their audience, their company, or facing legal consequences.
His story is a reminder: before following any crypto influencer, ask yourself if they have skin in the game or are just selling smoke.
