The U.S. government shutdown lasted 37 days, with federal employees losing over $10,000 on average?

The U.S. government shutdown has set a new record—surpassing the 35 days of the first Trump term. It is now the 37th day, and research shows that over half of the states in the country have federal employees who have lost an average of more than $10,000 in income.

Which areas are hit the hardest? Maryland ($13,781), New Jersey ($12,409), and Virginia ($12,196) rank the top three. Washington D.C. is even more extreme, with an average unemployment loss of $14,651 per person.

In simple terms, 37 days without pay. Although, in theory, back pay will be issued later, recent statements from Trump and his team have raised concerns—will this even happen? For most federal employees, 37 days without income is a real economic crisis.

Interestingly, states with higher living costs also see greater unemployment losses. For example, over 150,000 federal employees in California have lost an average of $11,479, with monthly living expenses of $6,706. How does your hometown compare?
