Monero issuance the ‘Flourine Fermi’ update to combat spy nodes
The Monero blockchain security has just launched the Fluorine Fermi update (v0.18.4.3) to enhance user protection against “spy nodes” (spy nodes). These are malicious nodes that can analyze and link IP addresses to transactions, threatening the anonymity of the network.
The update improves the peer selection algorithm, helping users avoid connecting to large IP ranges that are often controlled by spy nodes, while also enhancing the stability and reliability of the system.
Fluorine Fermi is a new step in the Monero community's efforts to bolster privacy, alongside other measures such as encouraging the operation of personal nodes, using a blocklist of suspicious IPs, and Dandelion++ technology to prevent transaction tracking.
Previously, Monero drew attention when a leaked video from Chainalysis in 2024 showed the ability to track transactions through malicious nodes.
