Vitalik responded on how to ensure hardware independence in improving encryption performance evaluation methods: publically available hardware can be used.
According to a message from Deep Tide TechFlow, on October 19, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin previously suggested that developers in the fields of zk-SNARKs ( ZK ) and fully homomorphic encryption ( FHE ) adopt more practical performance evaluation metrics and proposed using “efficiency ratio,” which is the ratio of encrypted computation time to original computation time, instead of the traditional “operations per second” metric. However, some community users have raised questions about how to ensure hardware independence. In response, Vitalik Buterin stated that publicly available hardware can be used, and the geometric mean of the dollar amount of capital expenditure per second operations and the joules per operation after encryption will become a reasonable first-pass metric.
