Dutch caretaker Prime Minister wins no-confidence vote, crisis of government collapse alleviated

On Wednesday local time, a motion to force Schoof’s government to resign early failed to gain majority support in the House of Representatives in The Hague. The measure ultimately failed by a large margin, with only two small parties supporting it, which hold 6 of the 150 seats in parliament. With the results of the re-confidence vote out, attention turned to the temporary election campaign on October 29 aimed at finally resolving the political crisis. However, despite Schoof’s victory in the no-confidence vote, a power vacuum in the Netherlands continues, and political divisions are laid bare.
