During a press conference in Beijing, American Senator Perdue stated that dialogues between President Trump and Chairman Xi Jinping are likely to take place in 2026, rejecting the expectation of a meeting in the fall. This comes after a phone call between Trump and Xi, although the Chinese side did not confirm an early meeting agreement.

A rare delegation of American lawmakers, led by Congressman Adam Smith, visited China for the first time since 2019. Meetings with Premier Li Keqiang and Vice Premier He Lifeng focused on trade, TikTok, fentanyl, rare minerals, and military relations. The delegation called for China to reduce the trade deficit, prevent fentanyl exports, remove non-tariff barriers, and ensure TikTok sells its assets in America. They also suggested transparency in strategic minerals and maintaining military dialogue following tensions in Taiwan.

Chinese officials welcomed the visit, emphasizing the improvement of US-China communication. Smith affirmed that the US military presence in the Asia-Pacific is not hostile, and Trump is seeking a peaceful solution for Taiwan.
