South Korea's Democratic Party Plans to Restructure Digital Asset Task Force in September, Targets Year-End Framework Law Passage

According to Yonhapinfomax on July 15, Democratic Party lawmaker Park Min-gyu announced that the party's digital asset task force (TF) will be restructured as early as September following the party convention on August 17, with the goal of passing a comprehensive Digital Asset Framework Act by end of 2026. The lawmaker, speaking at a legislative outlook seminar in Seoul hosted by the Digital Asset Exchange Association and think tank MRI, stated that the TF would coordinate with the government and relevant agencies to finalize the bill format and submission timeline, ideally in early September. Two unresolved policy issues remain: equity ownership restrictions for digital asset exchanges and a requirement that stablecoin issuers maintain bank equity holdings of 50% plus one share.
