According to South Korea's Financial Services Commission Chair Lee Eak-won, on July 29, the financial authorities acknowledged the need to regulate private equity funds (PEF) from acquiring management stakes in national infrastructure and public services sectors. The statement came during a parliamentary hearing following disputes involving Homeplus' restructuring and MBK Partners' bid for Korea Zinc's management rights. Lee said authorities would review legislative measures to establish institutional safeguards for industries with high public interest.
