Zakura Node Syncs Zcash Mainnet in 4 Hours as Ironwood Upgrade Nears July 28 Activation

According to Bitcoin.com News, Zcash's Zakura node synchronizes the mainnet in approximately four hours and 20 minutes—over five times faster than the Zebra client's 20 hours and 46 minutes—ahead of the Ironwood (NU6.3) hard fork activation expected on July 28, 2026, at block height 3,428,143. Zakura, launched July 15 by Zcash cofounder Sean Bowe and Osmosis cofounder Dev Ojha, uses pruned snapshots to bootstrap new nodes in under two minutes and includes zcashd compatibility mode for legacy wallet support. The Ironwood upgrade closes the Orchard shielded pool following a soundness flaw discovered by researcher Taylor Hornby in May 2026 that could theoretically allow counterfeit ZEC minting. A new Orchard pool built on corrected cryptography will open after the fork. The upgrade's turnstile mechanism ensures circulating ZEC supply becomes verifiable by preventing excess coins from leaving the legacy pool, with formal verification by Project Tachyon underpinning the new circuits. ZEC has stabilized above $500 as the activation date approaches.
